According to AS 5100.2-2004 the design wind speed shall be derived from the appropriate basic design speeds.

| Design wind speed ultimate | The regional basic speed is specified in AS 5100.2-2004 table 3.1 for a specific region. |
| Design wind speed serviceability | A design wind speed of 35 m/s shall be taken in all locations. The effects of wind on road traffic load need not be considered. |
| Air density | The air density r is set to the fixed value of 1.25 kg/m3 (=0.00125 t/m3). |
| Height (h) | Effective height of area exposed to wind. |
| Transverse wind | Calculated area load of wind pressure (Pch= 1/2. ρ × vtu/ts 2 × Cd). |
| Ultimate design | Consider wind load YES/NO |
| Serviceability design | Consider wind load YES/NO |
| Drag coefficient | Determined according to AS 5100.2-2004 section 16.3.3 |
| Vertical wind load for Serviceability and Ultimate design | An upward or downward vertical wind load, acting at the centroid of the appropriate area, shall be calculated for Serviceability and ultimate limit state with the same formula but instead of drag coefficient we will replace with a lift coefficient =0.75 |
